Research

The laboratory focuses on studying turbulent flows in energy systems and the research work is categorized into three verticals - high-speed flows, turbomachinery & power and multiphase flows. The research methodology is experimental, analytical and numerical. The experimental diagnostics include particle image velocimetry (PIV), high-speed imaging and probe measurements.

HIGH-SPEED FLOWS

Flow instabilities, acoustics and heat transfer characteristics in high-speed subsonic and supersonic jets

Applications: Aerospace propulsion, additive manufacturing and impingement cooling systems

TURBOMACHINERY & POWER

MULTIPHASE FLOWS

Flow dynamics in turbines, compressors, fans and duct flows

Applications: Gas turbine engine and sustainable energy systems like wind turbines

Spray characteristics of liquid injected in turbulent air flow

Applications: Fuel atomization in gas turbine engine, chemical industries and biomedical devices like drug inhalers
