Research
The laboratory focuses on studying turbulent flows in energy systems and the research work is categorized into three verticals - high-speed flows, turbomachinery & power and multiphase flows. The research methodology is experimental, analytical and numerical and the key experimental diagnostics include particle image velocimetry (PIV), high-speed imaging and probe measurements. Innovative experimental and data analysis techniques for cost-effective diagnosis are additionally explored.
HIGH-SPEED FLOWS
Convective flow instabilities, aero-acoustics and heat transfer in high-speed jets
Applications: Aerospace propulsion, manufacturing processes and thermal management
TURBOMACHINERY & POWER
MULTIPHASE FLOWS
Flow dynamics in turbines, compressors, fans, ducts and sustainable energy systems
Applications: Gas turbine engine, wind turbines and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems
Flow characteristics of liquid injection in gaseous flow and vice versa
Applications: Fuel atomization in gas turbine engine, chemical industries, and biomedical devices like drug inhalers
